Hearing the heartbeat for the first time is something I can’t really describe. It’s an indescribable feeling that I know both Zach and I will never forget. We were shocked that we created that heartbeat that belonged to our little baby.
We first heard the heartbeat, I believe, during our second appointment. I was about 8 to 10 weeks along. Both Zach and I were still trying to get used to the idea of being parents. He and I were in the room and my nurse practitioner told us she was going to look for the heartbeat. I remember looking at Zach, being a little shocked because I didn’t know you would be able to hear it that early. She said, “it’s still a little early and might be a little difficult to find,” depending on where the baby was. I’m pretty sure she said this so I wouldn’t freak out if she didn’t find a heartbeat. But she found it right away. It’s a sound I will never forget. It nearly brought me to tears. Zach and I were so excited, he dashed out of the room and grabbed my mom from the waiting room to come hear the heartbeat. I think that was when my mom started to accept the idea.
