I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Teen Outreach Pregnancy Services. As a former Obstetric Nurse, I directly witnessed pregnant teens experiencing poor outcomes with their pregnancies and newborns. This experience is what encouraged me to start TOPS. I am currently the Project Director on a Health and Human Services Pregnancy Prevention Research Study, which is evaluating the effectiveness of the TOPS program on preventing a second pregnancy in adolescent mothers. At the completion of this study, I am confident that TOPS will show excellent results and earn an evidence-based practice status. I have been married for 29 years, have five children and six grandchildren. In my spare time I enjoy hiking; swimming; riding my horse, Ranger; as well as knitting and sewing.
Lance Spears joined the TOPS team in the fall of 2015 as East Valley & Gila County Regional Manager. Lance brings to TOPS a wide range of expertise and experience. He earned his BA in Mass Communications/Public Relations and holds an M.A. in Professional Counseling. He is also a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and Reiki Master! Lance founded the Diaper Bank of Northern Arizona, has owned and operated his own businesses, and has worked extensively with children and families. When he is not at work, Lance loves to spend time with his wife, 4 wonderful children, and 6 grandchildren.
I started with TOPS in September of 2012 as it became increasingly apparent that Teen Outreach needed to provide more support for our Teen Fathers. I am a Tucson native with a background in Computer Science from the University of Arizona. I enjoy the math and sciences as well as all things science fiction and anything based on a comic book. My knowledge base is very well rounded, so I can answer questions on a variety of topics including computers, immunizations, fantasy football, cloth diapers, DIY projects and child development. It is my strong belief that we fathers are not simply the “other parent”, rather we are the co-parent, we are the yin to the mom’s yang, we are dads! Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad. Join me in the Fatherhood Revolution!
